Opis Gatunku
Kocimiętki należą do bylin silnie rozrastających się. Najczęściej uprawiane gatunki to Nepeta x faasseni (30-50 cm wysokości), Nepeta nervosa (zwarte kępy do 30 cm), Nepeta grandiflora (ciemnozielone liście, duże kwiaty, do 70 cm wysokości), Nepeta subsessilis (do 100 cm wysokości o wzniesionych nierozgałęzionych pędach). Rośliny o mocno rozgałęziających się pędach, pokryte są kutnerowatym owłosieniem, co nadaje im delikatny srebrzysty kolor. Kwiaty pojawiające się od maja do września są barwy fioletowej, niebieskiej, białej lub różowej, zebrane w okółki tworzą długie nibykłosy i przyciągają pszczoły i motyle. Poruszone listki wydzielają silny, aromatyczny zapach. Po zakończeniu pierwszego kwitnienia zaleca się rośliny przyciąć na wysokość ok. 10 cm nad ziemią, dzięki czemu powtórnie zakwitną jesienią i będą miały ładny pokrój. Kocimiętki można wysadzać w grupach na rabatach. Przydatne są do obsadzania ogrodów skalnych, podwyższonych rabat, skarp i murków oraz do ogrodów naturalistycznych. Intensywnie pachnące rośliny nadają się do obsadzania miejsc w pobliżu tarasów, altan, gdzie dzięki swym właściwościom odstraszają muchy i komary. Najlepiej rosną na glebach próchnicznych, przepuszczalnych, umiarkowanie wilgotnych i średnio zasobnych w składniki pokarmowe. Wymagają stanowiska słonecznego. Roślina uwielbiana przez koty, które zwabione jej zapachem układają się pośrodku i tarzają się w niej. Zapach rośliny wprawia zwierzęta w rozkoszny nastrój.
